Service overview

## Air conditioning designed around your rooms, not a catalogue
Home air conditioning is a wall-mounted or ducted indoor unit connected to an outdoor unit by refrigerant pipework. It cools rooms in summer and, on most modern systems, can also provide efficient heat in the cooler months. Done well, it runs quietly in the background and you forget it's there. Done badly, it's loud, blows cold air straight onto your bed or sofa and leaves ugly trunking running across the front of your house.

Greenwich Heating Solutions installs domestic air conditioning only: single-split systems for one room, multi-split systems that run several indoor units from one outdoor unit, and ducted systems for a hidden finish. We fit Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu and Haier, so the recommendation is based on your rooms and budget rather than one brand's stock.

Because refrigerant work legally requires F-Gas certification, this is not a job for a general handyman. GHS is F-Gas registered as a company and our engineers are personally F-Gas qualified. That means the system is pressure-tested, evacuated and commissioned correctly, which is what keeps it efficient and covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

Our customers are mostly homeowners in established residential areas across South East London and North West Kent who want a proper, long-term installation: bedrooms that stay comfortable on hot nights, home offices you can actually work in during a heatwave, and loft conversions that no longer become unusable from June to September.

### Who it's for

- Homeowners with bedrooms that are too hot to sleep in
- Home offices and loft conversions that overheat
- Families wanting several rooms cooled from one outdoor unit
- Anyone replacing a noisy portable unit with a fixed system

### When you need it

- Before summer, so the job is done ahead of the next hot spell
- When portable units or fans are no longer coping
- When an existing system is leaking, noisy or not cooling
- When you're renovating and want pipework hidden cleanly

What goes wrong

## What a poor or delayed install really costs you
UK summers are getting hotter, and demand for installers peaks the moment a heatwave arrives. Waiting, or picking the cheapest quote without a proper survey, usually costs more in the end.

### Summer waiting lists
Leave it until the first heatwave and you join everyone else in the queue. Customers who book in spring are the ones who are sorted before the hot spell.

### Wrong unit size
An undersized unit runs flat out and never quite cools the room. An oversized one cycles on and off, wastes electricity and wears out sooner.

### Bad placement
Indoor units put in the wrong spot blow cold air directly onto people, while outdoor units in the wrong place can be noisy for you and your neighbours.

### Unsightly pipework
Poorly planned routes leave trunking across walls and ceilings. Careful routing is something our customers specifically comment on.

### Refrigerant leaks
A system not pressure-tested and evacuated properly can slowly lose refrigerant, losing performance and eventually needing a repair visit.

### Neglected servicing
Dirty filters and coils reduce airflow and efficiency. An annual service from £150 + VAT keeps performance where it should be.

### Common mistakes we see

- Buying units online first, then looking for someone to fit them
- Choosing on price alone without a survey of the actual rooms
- Not thinking about where the outdoor unit and pipework will go
- Using someone who isn't F-Gas qualified for refrigerant work
- Relying on portable units that vent heat back into the room
- Skipping servicing until the system stops cooling

Our process

## From free survey to cool rooms in five steps

- 01
### Free survey
Josh visits at the agreed date and time, looks at each room, the walls and the outside space, and talks you through options with no pressure.

- 02
### Written quote
You receive a fixed-price written quotation within 24 hours, with the recommended units and where they'll go.

- 03
### Installation
Indoor and outdoor units are mounted, pipework and trunking routed neatly, and electrics connected. Most jobs are completed within a couple of days.

- 04
### Testing
The system is pressure-tested, evacuated and commissioned, then checked in cooling and heating modes.

- 05
### Handover & guarantee
We tidy up, show you how to use the controls, and your installation is covered by our 2-year workmanship guarantee plus the manufacturer's warranty.

Installations normally require a 50% deposit, with the remaining 50% payable on completion. We accept bank transfer, card and cash.

In detail

## Air conditioning systems explained
There's no single right system for every home. Here's how we decide what to recommend, and what each option involves.

### Single-split systems
A single-split system pairs one indoor unit with one outdoor unit. It's the most common choice for a main bedroom, a home office or a loft room. The indoor unit is usually wall-mounted high on an internal or external wall, and the refrigerant pipework runs through a single core hole to the outdoor unit.

It's the simplest install and usually the quickest. It's a good starting point if you want to cool one problem room and might add more later.

### Multi-split systems
A multi-split system runs two or more indoor units from one outdoor unit. That means one unit outside instead of several, which is often better for the look of the house and for neighbours. Each room keeps its own controls, so you only cool the rooms you're using.

One customer had units installed in three rooms and commented on how the team assessed the property and recommended the most suitable unit for each room. That room-by-room planning is what a multi-split needs to work well.

### Ducted systems
Ducted air conditioning hides the indoor unit in a loft, ceiling void or cupboard and delivers air through discreet grilles. It suits renovations, loft conversions and homeowners who don't want visible wall units. Because it needs space for ductwork, it's best planned at the survey stage, ideally before decorating.

### Pipework, trunking and outdoor units
Much of the quality of an installation comes down to what you see afterwards. We plan pipework routes to keep runs short and tidy, use trunking where it's needed, and choose outdoor unit positions with airflow, noise and access for servicing in mind, whether that's a wall bracket, ground stand or flat roof.

Parts, materials and additional works are charged separately where applicable, and anything like that is set out in your written quote so there are no surprises.

### Cooling and heating
Most modern split systems can also run in heating mode, which can be a useful way to take the chill off a room in spring and autumn. We'll explain how your chosen system works and show you how to use the controls at handover.

### Servicing and repairs
Air-conditioning servicing starts from £150 + VAT and covers cleaning filters and coils and checking the system is performing properly. If something isn't working, AC repairs are £180 + VAT for the first hour, then £75 + VAT per additional half-hour, with parts charged separately where applicable.
